The Rev. Jeffrey Walters was born in Omaha, Nebraska. Upon graduation from the University of Nebraska, he was accepted into medical school when he chose instead to follow God’s call into full time ordained ministry. He earned a Master of Divinity from Lutheran Theological Seminary in Gettysburg, PA. During his seminary training, Rev. Walters served as Chaplain at the Kansas State Prison, Assistant Pastor at Moxham Lutheran Church in Johnstown, PA and Chaplain at the Allegheny Lutheran Home for the Aged in Johnstown. He received specialized training in Pastoral Care at the Menninger Clinic in Topeka, KS. After an internship at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Worcester, MA, Rev. Walters continued his theological education in Europe. He has served two churches in his career – St. John’s Lutheran in Steelton (Harrisburg) PA and St. Johns Lutheran in Rutherford, NJ. Along the way, he completed a MA in Social Work from Rutgers University with a specialization in Church Administration, Policy and Planning. Jeff sang his first solo when he was 10 years old at the church of his childhood – American Lutheran in Omaha. His golden and professionally trained dramatic baritone voice has blessed churches and choirs throughout his life. He met his future wife Teresa during student days when his College Choir at the Lutheran Chapel sang her cantata The Kingdom. Jeff relates that he fell in love with Teresa’s music before he met Teresa. God has richly blessed Rev. Walters with a rare combination of gifts for ministry. Throughout his career, these powerful combined gifts for healing others in mind, body and spirit continue to bless and transform lives around the world.
Her first attempt at musical composition won first prize in a national hymn competition when she was 12 years old. Her next effort, an SATB setting of Psalm 1 composed in a single afternoon during her senior year in high school earned her a 4 year full tuition University Scholarship. Teresa Walters was born to a life of music. With BA and MA degrees in both piano performance and music composition, she finally focused on a Doctorate from Peabody Conservatory in piano performance. At Peabody, she won a prestigious International Education Award for a year’s study in Paris where she researched her dissertation on the great Nadia Boulanger, teacher of the 20th century’s greatest composers. Her international career as a concert pianist takes her all over the world. Best known to the musical world as a concert pianist, Teresa Walters has also contributed quietly and generously to the music literature and sacred music of the Christian Church. She has composed a number of sacred works combining music and Scripture, including three cantatas: The Kingdom, based on the Gospel of Matthew, One Man, based on the life of Christ, and Wedding Service of Scripture and Song written for the Walters’s wedding. With the consistent demands of her concert tour and travel schedule, Teresa continues to compose the words and music of her sacred songs in airplanes, trains, buses, hotel rooms and backstage dressing rooms. Teresa says that her best ideas come to her at 30,000 feet. In 2020, she shared a collection of her favorite songs: Psalms, Hymns and Spiritual Songs of Teresa Walters.
